Well...I think my talk went ok...you know how that is. It was suppose to be 15 min and I actually dragged it out to 12-13...a small miracle in itself! I know I like to talk a lot---but not in THAT setting! I thought I was going to be sick! Wish that I could give up my fear of public speaking! Anyway, wish I could share ALL the things I learned from preparing--but it was 5 type written pages (grin)

Well---review the story of Lehi and the Liahona. It's a great story! I talked about it and how Lehi may or may not have made it throught the wilderness without the Liahona. I believe he would have gotten lost, would have made many wrong turns and wouldn't have known what to do. I talked about how great it would be if we had our own Liahona to guide us today....and we actually do! Our own modern day Liahona is general conference and I talked about how without the prophet's counsel---we could also end up "lost" or making unnecessary mistakes in our lives.

Here's a great quote by Elder Lowell Snow of the Seventy: "The Lord provides guidance and direction to individuals and families today, just as He did with Lehi. This very general conference is a modern Liahona, a time and place to receive inspired guidance and directions that prospers us and helps us follow God's path."

I talked about ways that we could prepare ourselves for conference. I came up with a list, and then ran across a talk by Virginia Pearce that was almost every point I wanted to make. Gotta love that!I talked about praying beforehand about specific problems or concerns you had and then attending conference so you can receive your answers. Once you receive those answers---you have to act.

I love one of the point Sister Pearce makes in her talk. She says "We become the same people with the same problems if we don't act upon the messages we receive."

Anyway---that was about 20% of my talk right there...but thought I'd share those 2 quotes....oh and I'll leave you with one more...

Elder Paul Johnson of the Seventy says "Every time we are obedient to the words of the prophets and apostles we reap great blessings. We receive more blessigngs than we can understand at the time, and we continue to receive blessings long after our initial decision to be obedient.

I learned tons...and I appreciate all the comments you guys left..I had a LOT of the same feelings as you guys. I had outlined my talk before reading your comments..and I was amazed at how we think alike. Lots of the same comments that I had. You guys are awesome! Have a great general conference!
